How-To Calibrate Video Projector with Locators

learn how to calibrate a Video Projector Virtual video projectors of Smode stage, used for real life mapping, usually directly connected to the Outputs Read More using Point Locator3D coordinate used as the reference for calibration and Video Projector Calibration List of Point Locator in the scope of the Video Projector Read More points

the starting position is important, if the video projector is too far away (example: 180° rotation), the calibrator will not be able to calibrate.
The principle of the calibration is to match 3D points in the stage to 2D point placed in the 2D Space of the video projector

Create the Point Locator

For that you need the best 3D model representing the surface you want to video map.
On the surface you will create Point Locator3D coordinate used as the reference for calibration with one of this 2 options:
  • with a right click on the locators of the 3D object in the element tree
  • in edit mode and with a Ctrl+Click on the surface with the 3D object selected in the element tree

Create the 2D point

To create the 2D point in the Video Projector Virtual video projectors of Smode stage, used for real life mapping, usually directly connected to the Outputs Read More viewport you can switch to the dual view workspace and select the Stage Elements Group Group multiple stage elements together Read More and the Video Projector Virtual video projectors of Smode stage, used for real life mapping, usually directly connected to the Outputs Read More stage processor.
Activate the Mouse Crossenable it in the VP viewport tool bar and use it to point in the video projector output, and display the calibration point to see the points on your output
Now you have multiple options to create the points:
  • If your Video Projector Virtual video projectors of Smode stage, used for real life mapping, usually directly connected to the Outputs Read More see the points that you want to create, right click on it and press Create Visible Surface Locators
  • With the edit mode in the Video Projector Virtual video projectors of Smode stage, used for real life mapping, usually directly connected to the Outputs Read More viewport, select one Point Locator3D coordinate used as the reference for calibration in the element tree and the Video Projector Virtual video projectors of Smode stage, used for real life mapping, usually directly connected to the Outputs Read More and use Ctrl+Click in the Video Projector Virtual video projectors of Smode stage, used for real life mapping, usually directly connected to the Outputs Read More viewport to create a point at the cursor position

Calibrate

With 3D Point and 2D Point you can use a Video Projector Calibrator This automatically Adjusts the Video Projector placement according to Point Locator and Video Projector Calibration points Read More
You can calibrate by enabling the boolean
If the calibration is not good: Check the error of the points in Video Projector Calibration List of Point Locator in the scope of the Video Projector Read More if one is too high than the rest of them. Check if it's correctly placed.
